I've found PD occasionally just stops working. The AI doesn't seem to build a lot of ships with real PD (I use a lot of missiles myself), and even if they use your designs with PD. That being said, this isn't a real problem in the game right now. The enemy fleet seemed to be using all missile based weapons, and it didn't even begin to scratch my ship's shield before my singular ship destroyed all of theirs. I built a capital ship with 360 degree overlapping PD and flew it into an entire enemy fleet by it's self. The one problem with that design is that effective PD will decimate your fleet. Is there an easy way to do this? Also, how can I make those nifty squadron groupings that the computer automatically seems to make whenever I ctrl + number to make a fleet. I've used it to build a composition and have the AI autobuild it (every 4X ever so desperately needs this option), but I've found that it's very tedious to assign the right behaviours for every ship, especially since you can't duplicate a ship which already has the correct behaviour. I haven't gotten round to playing with the fleet designer a lot yet. What did you lose your frigates to in these engagements? Was it that you didn't have sufficient firepower to take out the (beefed up) enemy craft quickly enough, allowing them to return enough fire to polish off a few ships here and there, or did you just straight-up lose engagements?ĭo command modules actually reduce the damage your ship takes, or is the repair just sufficiently quick to essentially negate damage from Vulcan PDs? If you don't mind me continuing to ask questions: Like carriers in the back please, gunboats shall always face the enemy, first wing of corvettes shall attack from starboard, second wing just heading in, preference of already damaged ships as target etc. In there, you can create the fleet you want with the specialized characteristics and tell the AI to automatically produce it. Anything above can use the slots and energy for more important things.Īdditional tip: there is a fleet design mode. I only use shields for fighters and corvettes (the moment I have the ancient shield). Put some of them on your ship and suddenly all low and mid-tech weapons don't do anything against you. Have you wondered why you have to build commander modules? They give defense rating and repair your ship. Plus, it makes turn speed not that important anymore. I designed my ships like you in the first hours, until I noticed significant losses in combat. But somewhere at frigates, things change.
